If books and WiFi and recorded books and storytelling hours and DVDs
and interlibrary loan and a quiet place to read the paper are important to you...
You should join the Friends of the Library!
The Jaffrey Friends of the Library is a nonprofit group that works to strengthen, promote, and support our public library. It is committed to helping the library meet the diverse needs of the community and open doors to lifelong learning and discovery for everyone.
Among the efforts funded by the Friends are summer reading programs for children, museum passes, audio books for all ages, adult book discussions, puppets and games.
Friends receive calendars of events in the Spring and Fall, and an annual newsletter. Equally important, membership helps bring quality programs and services to the library.
This is a "doing" rather than a "meeting" organization. Our annual meeting in early December features a festive Holiday Tea. An Executive Board, elected annually, meets 4 - 5 times a year to plan programs and events.
We hold a large book sale every July in cooperation with TEAM Jaffrey's Riverfest celebration. We also have a cart of books for sale throughout the year in the library's main entryway. Both raise significant funds for the library and provide readers with books at a reduced cost.
The Friends sponsor at least two programs a year for the community, often using speakers from the NH Humanities Council.
Friends of the Library support the library staff as needed -- by volunteering at the desk, shelving books, helping with children's activities and creating displays.
