  • The Department practices anti-icing techniques common through New England. The application of salt or other anti-icing materials allows a brine solution to form to keep the snow from packing to the cold road surface and making plowing more effective.

  • Please complete a service request form or contact the office. Replacement signs are ordered from a vendor and may take several weeks to replace. We maintain a small stock of traffic control signs, such as stop signs. These signs are replaced soon after we are notified that the signs are missing.

  • The pipes under driveways are maintained by the property owner. They were installed when the driveway was installed.

  • The town supplies a mixture of sand and salt to residents for ice control. The pipe is located at the rear of the old salt shed at 23 Knight Street. This pile is for residents only and should be used on their own driveways and walks.

  • We try our best not to damage installations close to the edge of the travel way, but occasionally, due to adverse conditions, damage sometimes occurs. The Town is not responsible for these damages. Anything installed within the right-of-way is done so at the sole risk of the property owner. Please see our Winter Operations Policy (PDF).
